Daytime Inspiration

I'm Kelly and my daytime job as the Lifestyle editor at Trapit leads me to beautiful and inspiring photos, recipes, fashions, and designs all the time. This blog is my place to share the best of what I come across every day. by

Found this gem today while doing some pinning to my food board. Yum! I’m a pescatarian myself and have always loved carrots and avocado, so this looks like an easy winner.
From Selectism:

How good does this look? Fresh Tastes share this easy to prepare carrot salad with tuna and avocado. This is a great option for a healthy, fast to serve dish that anyone can prep up. Fire it up as a salad dish for you next dinner party.

Had to share this amazing time-lapse video of Portland, my home city. :) As blogged by Geoff over at thesportstrap:

“Finding Portland”

An absolutely remarkable time-lapse project by Uncage the Soul capturing the subtle beauty of this great city. A little blurb penned by their team about the vid~

Filmed in Portland and the Columbia Gorge, “Finding Portland” gives a new perspective to the City of Roses. From a season opening Portland Timbers soccer game, to the top of the Fremont Bridge, to an aerial shot of Oneonta Gorge, “Finding Portland” tells the story of a city and its many faces.

Comprised of over 300,000 photographs shot in March and April, and including 50 unique locations, it gives an intimate view of the city through cutting edge time-lapse techniques. We’re excited to share it, and some behind-the-scenes photos, with you right here!

Happened upon this photo today and I love the chic laid-back style this girl has going on. No sky-high heels or crazy pieces, just a good basic, some on-trend color, and a fun print to make a look that’s polished but still perfect for a comfortable weekend. I love a good example of easy style that doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard but is still stylish.

How cool is this? I guess I’ve always dreamed of vacationing on white sandy beaches, but soaking up some sun on a black (or pink, or green) sand beach sounds pretty cool, too. This gorgeous place is Punalu’u Beach on The Big Island in Hawaii.

One of the rare black sand beaches. The black sand is from molten lava that poured into the ocean and cooled rapidly. Legend has it that if you take any of the black sand with you, you will be cursed by a volcano goddess called Pele.

Getting sand all over you when it’s black might be a little more dramatic, but I’m adding colored sand beaches to my bucket list. The black beach is particularly cool, but I like the idea of a pretty blush pink beach, too. Both would make for some outstanding photographs. Get me to Hawaii, stat!

Ohhhhh nail art. The blogosphere has been blowing up with crazy complicated manicures for a while now, and while I’ve admired some of the many designs, I have yet to give the trend a try myself. In keeping with my pink craving (apparently…see previous post), I’m a big fan of these 80s-inspired bright nails. Since there is no layering of polish colors, it also doesn’t look like it would be too hard to do at home. Perhaps just tape off the triangular shapes while painting? Even that might be too much effort for me, but I do love the fun look and can at least enjoy looking at it. Thanks to Bangstyle for the inspiration.
I’m thinking for now I’ll just admire this look and maybe start out my nail art endeavors with an accent nail. Maybe minty green polish with a ring finger nail done in silver sparkle? Sounds about right.

Well, this is my very first post on this blog and I have to say, I think this is going to be fun. In my new job as Lifestyle (and Entertainment) Editor over at Trapit, I am perusing the web all day looking for the latest trends or hot topics in everything from food to street style to home decorating. I have fun pinning many of these things to my Pinterest boards every day, but this blog will serve as a fun way to highlight my favorite things that I run across in my daily browsing.
I love this feature from WhoWhatWear because I myself have been feeling a bit of a pink frenzy. I recently bought a pair of bright coral skinny jeans, have worn my new hot pink knit blazer (thanks H&M!) to work recently, and am pondering the thought of pink dining chairs with a new white table. I’ve never been much of a pink person so this is a little bit of a surprise to me, but I’m loving the bright, cheerful trend. Who doesn’t feel good wearing a bright pop of pink? It sure perks me up.
From WhoWhatWear:

We’re not ones to shy away from any vibrant color, but when it comes to our preferred hue this spring, there’s one in particular we plan on wearing over and over again: pink! In the past, it’s earned a reputation as a saccharine shade popular amongst those with ultra cutesy, girly sensibilities. And though we’re a sucker for sweetly feminine ensembles too, we’ve fallen for a cool new way to wear pink in the form of retro-inspired accessories and chic pieces with a downtown spin. We pinky swear you’ll love this color-infused look as well!
